The Crossfit Games are here! Starting on 7/11/2012, the first events will be hosted at Camp Pendleton in sunny California. If you can’t catch them in person, the schedule during which they will be aired on ESPN3 is as follows:
Friday, July 13: 5:15 – 11:15 p.m., ET
Saturday, July 14: 1:30 – 5 p.m. and 8:30 – 11:30 p.m., ET
Sunday, July 15: 1:30-7:30 p.m., ET
If you are attending in person, however, there are multiple Spectator Activities offered to enhance your CrossFit Experience, including personalized coaching in Olympic Lifts, strongman moves, gymnastics, and mindset from world-class coaches. You can even win a chance to challenge a CrossFit Legend to a WOD, though this is a feature available only to Full Access ticket holders.
As far as the games themselves go, expect to see a wide variety of events divided between Teams, Individuals, and Masters as athletes compete to be crowned the Fittest on Earth. More than 55,000 athletes and 1,615 teams have registered for the 2012 Open competition, with over 2,875 CrossFit affiliates being represented. This means more than 85 percent of affiliates worldwide have athletes participating in the Open.
Some of the competitors have back-stories that awe and inspire, such as the tenacious Jules Sterling, a 43-year-old mother of two, who just eight months earlier was diagnosed with breast cancer, and the persistant Matt Hathcock, who competed in the 2011 Open Sectionals despite a recent surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Despite the competitive edge, one of his biggest attractions to CrossFit is the community and camaraderie prevalent in each box and competition. It’s this one-of-a-kind atmosphere that has put the team competition on his radar, and creates a close-knit family feel among the athletes.
So tune in, throw on you ZweetSport gear, and head to your nearest box to push yourself to your limits in honor of the CrossFit Games of 2012! You won’t want to miss out on catching these amazing events that will motivate and inspire you to continue towards your goals of increased strength, endurance, and mindset!
